Rahul Gandhi’s Manipur Visit: Cong Targets to mobilise two lakhs Crowd for Election Rally

Congress party in Manipur has rolled up sleeves to mobilise above two lakhs crowd during the election rally in Imphal to be attended AICC president Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi is visiting the state on March 20 to formally launch Congress party’s election campaign for Lok Sabha poll in the state and to woo the voters for the Congress party. The Congress chief will address a mega election rally at Hapta Kangjeibung. He is expected to arrive at Imphal on the day after adddressing an election rally in Arunachal Pradesh. After addressing election rally at Imphal, he will leave for Tripura on the same day. Congress party is putting in all possible effort to mobilise above two lakhs crowd to make the rally a grand succeess, sources in Congress said.
On the other hand, the Congress party is making effort to capture both MP seats of inner and outer Manipur parliamentary constituencies. As of now, 16 aspiring candidates are vying for Congress ticket to contest in the Lok Sabha election. Nine aspiring candidates are vying for ticket in the inner Manipur parliamentary constituency which will go to poll on April 18 while seven aspiring candidates in the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency which will go to poll on April 11. Former MLA Dr N Bijoy, former MLA O Joy, National coordinator Fishermen Congress Ningombam Bupendra Meetei, Retired IPS and secretary MPCC S Manaobi, Thoubal BCC member K Saratchandra, sitting MP Dr Th Meinya Moirang BCC member Mairembam Bishwajit, Bishnupur BCC member and former chief secretary O Nabakishore, retd IAS and former MLA I Hemochandra are among the aspiring candidates for the inner Manipur parliamentary constituency. For Outer seat, Tongmang Haokip, retd IRS and Saitu BCC member, W L Hangshing, retd IAS, KS Ngaile, Karong BCC member, T Jamkhomang Haokip, Chandel DCC vice president, Sword Vashum, Chingai BCC member, John Mangliathang Jhou, Chandel BCC member and K James, Phubgyar BCC member are vying for ticket.
Sources said that as per norms, MPCC pradesh Election committee will first discuss the list of aspiring candidates and send a panel list to the party high command in the national capital. So far, the panel list is yet be submitted to the high command. Central election committee of AICC will formally announce the list of candidates after AICC screening committee discussed the panel list of candidates.
List of Congress candidates for Manipur is likely to be announced on the day of Rahul Gandhi’s visit or after his visit, added the source.
