PM likely to announce Guwahati-Silchar-Imphal fuel pipeline and establishment of Asian University: CM

Prime Minister is likely to announce the introduction of Guwahati-Silchar-Imphal fuel pipeline and establishment of Asian University for higher studies in the state, said Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh today.
Chief minister was addressing at the 34th Annual function of the hawkers’ association held at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, Imphal East.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Manipur on January 4. He will be addressing a public gathering at Hapta Kangjeibung in Imphal East.
Biren had earlier said the Prime Minister would inaugurate and lay foundation for not less than 10 projects.
Noting the contribution of newspaper distributors in society, Chief Minister announced that all the accredited/recognised Newspaper hawkers and their family would be covered under the Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT). He appealed the members of the Association to submit the relevant documents so that they can avail the benefits under CMHT.
Chief Minister stated that an insurance scheme would be rolled out for the hawkers soon so that they get some financial assistance when they met road accidents etc. The government is also discussing for the introduction a pension scheme for the members of the Association, he added.
Highlighting the importance and significance of the hawkers in our day to day lives, Chief Minister said that hawkers are no doubt rendering ‘human service’ throughout the year. Mentioning the hurdles and problems being faced by the truck drivers plying along the National Highways, Chief Minister said that CMHT benefits would be provided to the drivers soon.
