State Assembly winter session commences

The State Assembly session began today with obituary reference on the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Governor of the State Dr. Shivinder Singh Sidhu and former Minister of the State Phungzathang Tonsing.
The house will have only two sittings The obituary reference was initiated by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. He said, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a great leader of the country who had strived for social upliftment in the country. The Chief Minister also said, Dr. Sidhu was a good leader who loved Manipur very much. Mr. Biren Singh further said, Phungzathang was a great leader who stood for the integrity and unity of the Manipur. Biren said that former minister Phungzathang Tonsing was a leader who took vital role for the cause of the state and a man of integrity. He courageously raised his voice for oneness of all the communities in the state. Body of the late leader will be brought to Imphal tomorrow and members of the house will pay tribute when his body arrives Imphal
Opposition leader Okram Ibobi, while taking part in the obituary reference, said that former prime minister AB vajpay was an able and courageous leader of the country. Demise of the leader is a great loss for the country. State Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh, Agriculture Minister V. Hangkhanlian, and Congress MLAs AK Mirabai Devi and Vungzagin Valte also took part in the obituary reference. The members of the House also observed two minutes’ silence to as a mark of respect to the departed leaders.
