Thai Princess interacts with Manipur king for first time in History

For the first time in the history, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Kingdom of Thailand interacted with the titular Manipur King Leishemba Sanajaoba at the Kangla Uttra, the old royal palace of the then sovereign Manipur kingdom.
During the meeting, titular Manipur King Leishemba Sanajaoba narrated the Thai princess about the legacy of soveriegn Manipur kingdom which had been ruled by over 76 different kings.
King Leishemba Sanajaoba said that there are several secred sites inside the Kangla and rituals have been carried out at the secred shrines of Pakhangba and Sanamahi since time immemorial. Rituals known as Pakhangba Chenghongba is performed at Pakhangbam shrine every year on “Kalengi 15 ni panba” in Manipuri lunar month. Emoinu worship is held on 12th day of Wakching.
Regarding the “Luphou Nung” (a boulder on which skulls are dried up) inside Kangla, the Manipur King said after the death of Kings and queens, their skulls were dried up on Luphou Nung for performing their final rituals.
Regarding Manung Kangjeibung, the king said entertainments, festivals and sports events were held at Manung Kangjeibung. Sagol Kangjei was usually held there.
Mapal Thangapat and Manung Thangapat were constructed as a fort to protect the Manipur royal palace from invasion by the enemies. Kangla which is the origin of state’s political, historical, social and administrative histories of Manipur has existed in Manipur for over 5000 years, he recalled.
Manipur chief minister N Biren, Art and culture minister L Jayentakumar also attended the function.
The princess also visited Kangla Museum, Shri Shri Govindaji Temple and Ibudhou Pakhangba Temple.
Earlier, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn attended the biggest annual tourism festival of the State, Manipur Sangai Festival – 2018 at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT) last night.
The Princess was accompanied by Thailand Ambassador to India Shri Chutintorn Gongsakdi, officials of Royal Thai Embassy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,Thailand, Media Team from Thailand and also the officials of Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
The Princess was accorded a warm welcome by the scores of people who had gathered at the BOAT. The Princess witnessed the mesmerizing cultural performances both from Manipur and Thailand. Speaking on the occasion, Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn said that it is indeed a great pleasure to visit the State and experience the Manipur Sangai Festival. She appreciated the Government’s initiative of ‘Act East Policy’ and mentioned that Thailand would extend co-operation in this regard.
It may be mentioned that the Princess will also visit Sendra, Keibul Lamjao and Kangla tomorrow.
