The 2018 data reveal that India serves as one of the biggest markets for Facebook. India has about 294 million users of Facebook which is why the social media giant has lately been pushing India-centric updates across all its platforms.
WhatsApp which is owned by Facebook has been receiving features and updates with most of them targeting to combat the spread of fake news in India. Facebook has also received several new features that are India-centric and now Instagram which is a photo-sharing app also owned by Facebook is said to receive one big update- Hindi language support.
Instagram is planning to expand its user base in India by adding Hindi support to the app. An app researcher Jane Manchun Wong spotted this in a beta version of Instagram. In the screenshots shared by Wong, Instagram beta version is seen with comments, settings, profile, IGTV section and everything in Hindi.
Instagram is aiming to expand its userbase in India. Facebook and WhatsApp already support multiple languages and now Instagram will soon join the list.
Instagram has rolled out several new features this year. The biggest of all is the IGTV, a long-form video feature that allows user to publish long videos of up to 60 minutes with support for vertical viewing. The feature is available for both iOS and Android users.
IGTV has channels which are made by creators. When a user follows a creator on Instagram, their IGTV channel will show up in the news feed. Anyone can be a creator – users can upload their own IGTV videos in the app or on the web to start their own channel.
Instagram now also allows to add music in Stories. Instagram Stories are Snapchat-like posts (videos, photos or audio files) that disappear after 24 hours.
You’re all caught up is another notice-worthy feature from Instagram that informs users if they have already viewed all their new posts.
Reportedly, Instagram is also working on a feature that will group college students based on their college universities. It will allow you to direct message or watch a user’s public Story directly from the community lists. Users will be able to see lists according to classes, so that they can find their batchmates.
